RACE CANCELLED
Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 8:35PM The Organising Committee of the Veteran Fours Head regrets to announce that the 2023 race has been cancelled.
The safe conduct of the race and the safety of competitors and volunteers must be the number-one priority of the Organising Committee. A key element in determining the safe conduct of the race is the weather conditions in the areas of the course immediately before, during and immediately after the race.
The Tideway is on a PLA yellow flag and the upriver Thames is fully on red boards, with flow rates upriver continuing to rise.
The Met Office wind forecast on Saturday morning has consistently shown a south-easterly direction, which against the flow of stream would mean even a shortened course would not be a viable option.
The Organising Committee will review the costs incurred by cancelling this close to race day and if possible will make a partial refund to crews. There will be updates on this as soon as possible.
